One day, I’d like to imagine that we will simply pick up our cellphone, tell it we want a beer, and one will magically appear in front of us, ready to enjoy. Until that day, Beeri is about as close as we’re going to get to the automated beer dream.
Inspired by Apple’s new Siri assistant for the iPhone, the guys at redpepper decided to see what it would take to get their phone to pour them a beer on request.
The result is Beeri, a Twitter controlled RC truck that uses some clever hacking and a bit of imagination to turn your voice command into a freshly poured beer.
Beeri is activated by a Twitter account called @BeeriBot, which ‘listens’ for the word “pour” in any tweet sent its way. The account is updated via text message, which Siri can send when you connect Twitter with your phone’s SMS account.
Once the message has been sent and detected, the second part of Beeri comes into play: An RC truck with modified electronic controls.
An Arduino Uno with a WiFi shield is connected to the truck, and when it detects the word “pour”
she triggers the sequence of preprogrammed pour commands (go, stop, adjust) that interface with the truck
